The Townsend Foundation receives its name from the picturesque city of Port Townsend, Washington, where the founder's son, Mark Semmann, made his home in the last two years of his young life.

The Townsend Foundation was incorporated in the year 2000. The current board members for the foundation are:

Mary Gerds, President
Karen Deiringer, Treasurer
Carol Renner, Secretary
Justin Lachowin
Peter Mayer

The Board meets several times per year as deemed necessary to conduct regular business and award grants from applications or gifts at its own discretion.

Donations to the foundation are fully tax deductible, recognized by the IRS as a 501 (c)(3) private foundation.
